TRAINING
LEADERS SINCE
1963
Understanding the history of the University of Zaragoza School of Tourism means understanding our commitment to training professionals for the tourism sector. For over 60 years, we have nurtured talent for Aragón, Spain, and the world.
Today, the Degree in Tourism has consistently ranked among the top programs in the University of Zaragoza’s internal evaluations for over a decade.
1963–1975 · OUR BEGINNINGS: A PIONEERING VOCATION
The history of ETUZ began in the 1963–64 academic year, when Fernando Casamayor founded the Zaragoza School of Tourism, driven by a clear mission: to train professionals for an emerging sector that was beginning to transform both the economy and society.
In a small chalet at 35 Calle Santa Teresa, the first steps were taken toward what would become a leading institution. Tourism and Hostess courses were offered in a warm, committed, and forward-thinking environment.
At that time, only one other school existed in Spain: The Spanish school for New Professions. This positioned Zaragoza as one of the pioneering institutions in tourism education in the country.
In the 1972–73 academic year, the school moved to 5–7 Isabel La Católica Street — a reflection of its growth and consolidation. That same year, Fernando Casamayor passed away, leaving behind an institution with a lasting purpose and enduring vocation.
1976–1997 · TWO PATHS, ONE VOCATION
For over two decades, Zaragoza witnessed the parallel development of two schools united by a common goal: to professionalize the tourism industry through rigorous training adapted to the evolving times. Under the guidance of the Official School of Tourism in Madrid, both institutions significantly enriched the city’s educational landscape.
On one side, the Aragón School of Tourism, located at 6 Paseo Constitución, held its classes at the Pignatelli Centre. This location also fostered the creation of the Huesca School of Tourism in the 1978–79 academic year, which became independently managed by its own teaching team in 1983.
On the other side, the Salduba School of Tourism began its journey on Blasón Aragonés Street. It later moved to 10 Alfonso Street, and finally, in the 1995–96 academic year, settled in the Escolapios school building.
Both schools educated generations of students who now hold key positions in the tourism sector. In their classrooms, students not only gained knowledge, but also developed values, professional networks, and a deep respect for tourism education.

1997–2000 · ETUZ, AN AFFILIATED CENTRE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ZARAGOZA
By the late 1990s, the need to integrate tourism education into the university environment marked a pivotal moment in the School’s development. In 1997, discussions began between the two Zaragoza tourism schools with the goal of merging and fulfilling the requirements for affiliation with the University of Zaragoza..
This process culminated in July 1998 with the establishment of the Fernando Casamayor Foundation (FFC), the legal and academic entity that gave shape to the current current Zaragoza University School of Tourism (ETUZ).A renewed institution was thus born — university-oriented, and offering a modern, rigorous training model aligned with the sector’s evolving needs.
In January 1999, ETUZ inaugurated its current headquarters at Plaza Ecce Homo No. 3. On September 30 of the same year, the official agreement for its affiliation with the University of Zaragoza was signed. The 2000–2001 academic year marked the beginning of a new era, with the Diploma in Tourism officially awarded by the University.
